My obsession with Martha's Vineyard.. phototography..genealogy and life in general and this and that…

Friendly Friday Photo Challenge – Art Unexpected…

Clockwise from upper right:  tree sculpture in PA – easels in windows – statues and metal cows at the Field Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard – sidewalk art – mural in NJ – piano in Greenwich Village, NYC.

My daughter and I are deeply into our genealogy and have been visiting cemeteries where our ancestor are buried.  I’ve always found cemeteries to be interesting places, especially the older ones where grave stones and markers are indeed works of art.  We have several ancestors buried in Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Newark, New Jersey, which is Newark’s oldest cemetery and in my opinion the most beautiful and interesting one.  The cemetery has a special section for the firemen of Newark and that is where my great, great grandfather is buried.  The unexpected art connection to me are the fire hydrants that surround this section.

I'm married, I have two daughters and two grandchildren and they all love MV. Enjoy my MV blog and contact me if I can answer any questions. This blog started out as strictly about Martha's Vineyard but over the years I've branched out to include other obsessions and interests. I enjoy photography and like sharing my photos here as well. I'm also into genealogy and reading. Hope you enjoy :)

  1. A lovely selection of art. My eye is most drawn to the metal cows and sculpture. It looks as if the cows are floating just above the grass! Even the white sculptures don’t look grounded 🙂

How interesting it must be to find your ancestors in these cemeteries, and to know that your great great grandfather was a fireman – that’s very special.

Thanks for joining the challenge – Sandy

  2. Thank you for your comments 🙂 I loved the cows and sculptures at the Field Gallery on the Vineyard, it’s a place of joy and whimsy. My dad was a police officer in Newark but I didn’t know we had any firemen in the family so it was nice to find that out. My Newark connection goes back to the founders of the city which we also found out about only a few years ago. Never know what you’re going to find when you poke around the family tree 🙂
