MV Obsession

My obsession with Martha's Vineyard.. phototography..genealogy and life in general and this and that…

Photo A Day Challenge: Start With ‘Z’…

For ‘Z’ I’ve chosen the Tappan ZEE Bridge in New York, which is named for the Native American tribe called the ‘Tappan’ and ZEE is the Dutch word for ‘sea.’

Being that the prompt for Jan 12th is ‘Z’ and the bridge was to be demolished on that date I thought it was a perfect choice. However, demolition of the east span of the old Tappan ZEE bridge with explosives has been postponed until Tuesday, January 15th due to high winds.

I'm married, I have two daughters and two grandchildren and they all love MV. Enjoy my MV blog and contact me if I can answer any questions. This blog started out as strictly about Martha's Vineyard but over the years I've branched out to include other obsessions and interests. I enjoy photography and like sharing my photos here as well. Hope you enjoy :)

  1. We moved to NC over 10 years ago from this area (Ramsey, NJ) when the construction was beginning. It is great to see the completed new bridge. Thanks.

  2. You’re welcome. The new bridge is beautiful.

  3. I used to live in the Northeast and travel that way from time to time. I heard it was one of the most likely to fall down at the time. It didn’t instill a lot of confidence! And the George Washington Bridge was the alternative!

  4. It was set for demolition last week but the winds were too strong to set the explosives. I’m sad to see it go, even though the new bridge is pretty awesome!
