Chappy
July 7, 2001 – April 14, 2016
How do I even begin to write this post about our beloved granddog Chappy. What can you say about a dog that has been part of your life for nearly 15 years and gave you nothing but love, enjoyment and devotion. He was wonderful, pure and simple just a dear sweet soul of a dog.
I was with my daughter Deb, the day she picked him up. He was a little ball of fuzz, not sleek and curly like some of his liter mates but he was charming and cute and determined to come home with us. Here he is with his liter mates… and saying goodbye to his parents Buddy & Tawny…
…and start his life with his mom Deb and a family who adored him.
There’s so much I want to say about Chappy and so many, many hundreds of pictures of him I’d like to share but I could never fit it all into one post, or even ten for that matter.
Please take a moment to CLICK HERE and read my daughter Deb’s tribute to her beautiful Chappy. Thank you.

This is a beautiful and so emotional post. I read Deb’s story of her wonderful :Chappy” and I’m writing this to you through tears.
I send you and your family love and strength, but at this time there is nothing to do but go through it.

Thank you Judy… your thoughts and wishes are greatly appreciated. I had a hard time with this post, I wanted to say so much but decided to let the pictures speak for themselves. It’s hard but we have almost 15 years of memories. ❤

I read your blog often. I’m obsessed with Cape Cod, and as an off shoot, MV. I’m sorry to hear of your loss. I know what you are feeling. Ironically, my wife and I picked up our little lab mix, Merlin, on July 8, 2001. He was 2 months old that day, and sadly, we lost him on February 25th, 2016. He was a joy and the first addition to our family, before our 4 kids. Words don’t do it justice, but I visit my memories of Merlin every day.

Thank you for your kind words. It’s always hard to lose our furry family members no matter how long we’ve had them. Merlin & Chappy were really close in age weren’t they 🙂 Merlin must have been gorgeous too.
Glad you enjoy my MV blog, yes, I am obsessed 🙂

You’re absolutely right… we were so lucky to have him all those years. He was the best dog we ever had, he is greatly missed.

Oh Chappy! I saw your photo of him on the Reader! He looks just like my Aero! Sorry for the loss of Chappy. He was a beautiful dog! Spaniels are special. Here is a link to a post that shows Aero’s pics. https://secondwindleisure.com/2016/06/24/who-is-your-partner/ He is 14 pounds and mixed with terrier and poodle. I will have to google Boykin Spaniels. They may have been cousins 🙂

Thank you Terri for the kind words. Chappy was the best dog ever… the only male we ever had and the sweetest dog too. He was actually my granddog, all the fun, none of the work, same as with grand kids 🙂 I don’t know where you live but Boykin Spaniels are the state dog of S. Carolina, they are mostly in the south but there are a few in other states. I enjoyed your post your fur babies are gorgeous 🙂

I have been stumped trying to figure out what type of Spaniel Aero might be. Thanks for sharing the link on Boykin Spaniels. We live in California. We get stopped all the time with people asking what kind of dog Aero is. Amazing that Aero’s siblings look like the blonde one in the photo I linked. Well, seeing this brought tears to my eyes, for sadness of Chappy, and for joy to see this breed. You made my day!

Terri, you made my day by saying that 🙂 I bet Aero, if not all Boykin, has some Boykin in him… he just looks too much like Chappy and my daughter’s first Boykin, Katy to not have some of that in him. We live in northern NJ and there aren’t many Boykin’s here either 🙂

Hi again. I just have to tell you, that Chappy (and you) motivated me to figure out that indeed Aero has some Boykin ancestry. After I googled the site and did some more digging, we found the ONLY Boykin Spaniel breeder in California is in Northern Cal, near Mt Shasta, about 200 miles from me. Through her facebook page, we discovered her dogs just whelped a litter 4 weeks ago and have two males still for sale. I spoke to her on the phone this morning and chatted, then I sent her a photo of Aero and she is convinced he is part Boykin! We decided to buy one of the pups! We will have the most beautiful cocoa brown pooches in the West! I owe this all to your post and to the memory of Chappy. ❤
