MV Obsession

My obsession with Martha's Vineyard.. phototography..genealogy and life in general and this and that…

When I’m 64 …

This is Fluffy.   He is 64 years old this year.  I’ve had him since I was around 8 years old.  Fluffy came from Germany, he used to be completely covered in rabbit fur but over the years a lot of it has been petted away.  Fluffy is a little hard of hearing as one of  his ears falls off  from time to time.  He is my dearest childhood possession.

Fluffy sort of has a Vineyard connection… but doesn’t almost everything in my life 🙂  Ethel Souweine, who was a relative of my mother’s lived on Massasoit Ave in Oak Bluffs.   Her two sons, William and Leon, and her daughter Vivian Carole were all in the army in the 1940’s and 50’s.  Every time one of them would be stationed in, or visit a foreign country, they would bring back a toy for me and for their niece Carolee.   Fluffy was one of those gifts.

Look at that face … his eyes look so real to me.

Nowadays Fluffy lives with the other animals and dolls in a comfy basket on a trunk.  They’re a very close group

Fluffy doesn’t get out much but a case of wanderlust hit him the other day and he thought it would be fun to surprise Chappy by visiting him.

Seeing eye-to eye and nose-to-nose.

After exchanging pleasantries for awhile Fluffy decided to nap before his trip back to his basket family.

Back home with the gang.

Maybe an upcoming post on some of the other basket gang members.

I'm married, I have two daughters and two grandchildren and they all love MV. Enjoy my MV blog and contact me if I can answer any questions. This blog started out as strictly about Martha's Vineyard but over the years I've branched out to include other obsessions and interests. I enjoy photography and like sharing my photos here as well. I'm also into genealogy and reading. Hope you enjoy :)

  1. Reminds me of my dear Teddy, my constant companion from not long after birth (or so my mother told me). I chewed, rubbed, or pulled most of his fur off. I took him to summer camp when I was about eight, then made the big mistake of taking him on an overnight campout — and leaving him behind. By the time he was found again, he was all moldy and had to be thrown out. I still remember what he looked like.

  2. I think we always remember our childhood confidantes. In 5th grade I entered Fluffy in a school hobby show and worried all day that other people would touch him… or even worse… take him. I was so glad when school was over that day and I could take him home again. I think he was a little traumatized by the whole thing… lol

  3. i still have my *tytytiger*….a stuffed tiger from the *sambo* story… brother gave it to me when i was 5 years old….so tyty is almost 50…..and still dearly loved….♥

  4. oh, and i must add….a little battle scarred….he has a sewn on smile because somewhere along the way i gave him a lipstick smile that my mother removed my doing surgery and then stitching him up….and i also painted his nose with glow-in-the-dark paint, so at night i would stand on my bed holding him up to light to *charge* and then when i shut the light off, his nose was so bright i could read by it!!!!! ah….such fond memories!!!

    • We never forget our childhood confidantes… some of us are lucky to still have them… they never complained when you’d dress them up or make them up or get them dirty…they were just ‘there’ for you ❤

  5. oooh, what a treasure!!… the dolls not so much 🙂 I’ve always had a doll phobia.. go figure.

  6. Some dolls can be scary but doggies not so much 🙂
