Built in 1843, the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown is considered the Vineyard’s most outstanding example of Greek Revival architecture.

The Old Whaling Church is part of the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust properties and is used as a performing arts center as well as for weddings and other festive occasions.

I'm married, I have two daughters and two grandchildren and they all love MV. Enjoy my MV blog and contact me if I can answer any questions. This blog started out as strictly about Martha's Vineyard but over the years I've branched out to include other obsessions and interests. I enjoy photography and like sharing my photos here as well. Hope you enjoy :)

  1. It’s also used for notable islander’s funerals . . . and is very appropriate for that purpose. I went inside once as a child and to me it was like a cathedral experience I think mostly because I was thinking about how old it was and how many, many true islanders, even back to really olden times, had been there. I wouldn’t say it was a ghostly type feeling, but one of reverence and reflection of times of the past.

  2. You have such beautiful pictures! I miss reading Deb’s blog.
