MV Obsession

My obsession with Martha's Vineyard.. phototography.. life in general and this and that…

The Lone Scone …

10 Comments

I don’t know what possessed me to try poetry but here goes (fingers crossed)…

‘Ode To A Blueberry Scone’

~~~~
Sitting alone in my freezer…
The last of the scones I brought home…
Born in the kitchen of Espresso Love...
It waits and waits all alone.
~~
Once it was part of six…
Or maybe it was seven…
The fact of the matter is…
These blueberry scones are a taste of heaven.
~~
For ten months I’ve selfishly horded them…
Savoring them one at a time…
Feebly offering to share them…
Hoping the person would decline.
~~
There’s  something special about them…
Besides the way that they look and they taste…
They’re a connection to the Vineyard…
And not a crumb ever goes to waste.
~~
And so lonely scone…
Your turn will come soon…
After all…
For a new supply I must make room.
~~
I'm married, I have two daughters and two grandchildren and they all love MV. Enjoy my MV blog and contact me if I can answer any questions. This blog started out as strictly about Martha's Vineyard but over the years I've branched out to include other obsessions and interests. I enjoy photography and like sharing my photos here as well. Hope you enjoy :)
  1. What a lovely, yet sad, ode. I think you did a fine job.
  3. Joan, I am going up to the Vineyard Tuesday and I am bringing you back some scones! So enjoy your birthday scone without reservation.
    Happy, Happy Birthday, Joan. I, for one, am very grateful you were born.
    XO
  4. I am grateful you were born, too! (And not only because that would mean I wouldn’t be here!)
  5. Hey….you could have a career as a rapper!! Can you put that to music…
  6. Oh, how I feel the love…and I’ll be buying your birthday gift in the morning. I’ll tell Carol to check out your amazing poem, too!
  7. Keep on writing! I loved it. And go eat it and enjoy! Fiberfarm said she will bring you more.
  8. Oh Joan, you are so fun – thanks for sharing your talents!!
  9. Joan,
    I love your poem! I do completely understand–I also brought home treasures from Espresso Love which hit the freezer immediately upon arriving back in California. I think it was a Pecan Scone which had a hint of orange that I loved best!
    Just a little warmup in the oven and a fresh cup of coffee for a beautiful Vineyard treat….
    I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
    Judy
