Katy and Chappy are my granddogs… their mom is my daughter Deb..
This is Katy (Katama) our Boykin Spaniel, she was our first dog to go to Martha’s Vineyard… actually our first dog to ever go on a vacation with us. Here she is on the Islander in May 2000, looking happy and eager to get on with her adventures.
She enjoyed her first dip in the ocean… running and barking and trying to catch an elusive wave or two.
At Katama/South Beach, the place she was named for she was a little unsure of the waves so she mostly romped along side of them.
A quiet morning at Edgartown lighthouse was nice after going to the beach, shopping and meeting people. Unfortunately it was Katy’s one and only trip to MV… a year later she was hit by a car and died at only 20 months old. Did you ever see such beautiful yellow eyes. She was a sweetheart and we miss her and love her.
And then along came…
Chappy (Chappaquiddick) our second Boykin Spaniel and our first boy dog. His first vacation, in May 2002, at age 10 months was of course to MV, and he loved the beach too.
And Sengekontacket pond which is a little calmer then the ocean.
Relaxing at Vineyard Haven harbor is fun too… watching the ferries arriving and leaving and sometimes meeting an Island dog to chat with. This by the way is his mom Deb’s favorite picture of him.
Chappy had to visit the place he was named after too so here he is with Deb on Chappaquiddick.
Two of the places we’ve stayed with Chappy are Bradys NESW and The Island Inn, they’re great place to stay with or without your pet. Chappy says a few of his favorite stores are – Good Dog Goods in Oak Bluffs… the treats there are wonderful (especially the cheese ones and the peanut butter ones) and the people always remember him and sometimes get down on the floor to play with him. He also recommends the Black Dog for their dog biscuits… he says they’re droolicious.

Lucky, lucky me, two trips to MV this year, May and October, both beautiful months to be on the Vineyard. Come along and join me, my daughter Deb, her dog Chappy and my granddaughter Tiffany on our adventure.
Welcome to Cape Cod… getting closer to Woods Hole and the ferry by the minute.
Arrived late afternoon on Saturday and mostly walked, browsed, stretched our legs and paws, enjoyed a good meal and then settled in for the night.
Sunday morning was stunning. After breakfast in the garden at Espresso Love we drove out to W Tisbury to the Artisan Fair at the Grange Hall.
We browsed, bought a few trinkets and then headed down the road to the whimsical and delightful Field Gallery. You can’t visit here and not smile.
A moment of relaxation and contemplation before moving on.
The afternoon culminated with a ride on the Flying Horses. You can never be too young or too old to not enjoy a spin and a chance to catch the brass ring.
After breakfast Monday morning at the Black Dog Cafe…
…we headed to pumpkin heaven at Morning Glory Farm.
Part of the afternoon was spent walking through the Campground.
This is the first cottage in the Campground…1864.
Tuesday’s breakfast was at Among The Flowers in Edgartown.
Then a drive Up-Island to the Beetlebung Cafe and to spend the day with a good friend.
The nexy day our time on the Vineyard came too quickly to an end.
Here comes the Martha’s Vineyard to take us back to America.

This is Chappy on Aug 25, 2001… we had just picked him up from the breeder in western PA and were starting our 6 hour drive home to NJ.

Heading right to the bins of biscuits – pizza flavor is one of his favs. His tail is wagging so fast that he’s a blur of fur.
The lady who works there remembers him and offers him a treat.
But first he has to do some tricks to earn it…

Hi, it’s Chappy. I haven’t visited gram’s blog in awhile and since today is my 11th birthday she invited me to write a post. Here goes.
This is where it all began… me with my brothers and one sister all smooshed up against our dog mom Tawny.
This is mom and dad… Tawny and Buddy. I’ve been told I look more like my mom and have her sweet disposition…but I’ve got some of dad’s sense of fun in me too.
This is my mom, Deb. Oops, I’m skipping ahead here, I wanted to tell you about our first day together. Well , not all of it, some of it was traumatic but that’s for another post someday.
After I said goodbye to Tawny and Buddy we began our long trek across Pennsylvania to New Jersey. You can see I was already in the driver’s seat.
I caused quite a ruckus when we stopped at McDonald’s for lunch. I had no idea I was so cute and I certainly had no idea what wonderful smells and tastes were out in the world. Talk about excitement, I actually stayed awake for awhile.
Finally after days on the road, well it seemed like days to me, what did I know about cars and roads and big noisy trucks that kept waking me up. Mom says it was more like 6 hours… in puppy time that IS days. Good thing I was so rested ’cause when we got home look at all the toys waiting for me… I couldn’t believe it. The six of us siblings had one toy and one tennis ball to play with, I was in toy heaven.
Just look at me… sweet, adorable, just a hint of mischief in my eyes. Yup, I picked the absolute best mom and family in the world. But enough of the mushy stuff.
The pictures below weren’t my idea… gram snuck them on here when I wasn’t looking. Really, I have no idea how they got here but go ahead and enjoy them… I like the ones of me with mom the best. Okay, bye for now, Chappy signing off
