Gay Head ~ 1989

The chocolate chunk cookie was eaten before I glanced at the ingredient label, so there is no picture of this delicious cookie. Go ahead though and look at the ingredients, does anything seem, oh I don’t know, out of place in a cookie?
TREE ! I’ve never seen tree listed as a possible ingredient in a cookie, or anything else for that matter.
Or did they mean to say ‘peanuts and other NUTS’ … like almonds, pine nuts, hazelnuts, pecans and pistachio to name a few.
Wonder who wrote up the list… those cookie elves that live in a tree perhaps !

Long ago and far away in the year of nineteen hundred and eighty four a staff of very clever, creative and whimsical people put out a parody issue of the Vineyard Gazette ingeniously titled ~ “Not The Vineyard Gazette”. I, collector of all things Vineyard actually have a copy of this one-time parody edition.
One of the articles on the front page is about the discovery of a baby Vineyard named Arthur’s Vineyard after the helicopter pilot who accidentally found it. There were several theories of how the baby Vineyard came to be, one of which was that it was the baby of MV and Nantucket and that a recent rain storm had been the baby shower. So funny.
Another article on the front page is “Oak Bluffs Changes Name to Oaks Bluffs.” Apparently the name change was due in part to the fact that too much time was being taken correcting people who were getting Oak Bluffs name wrong and it was decided to just not fight it anymore. Of course that would never ever ever happen.
Here’s an amusing article about Edgartown hiring fashion police. Apparently a glitch in getting the fashion police out on the streets is the inability to agree on a color scheme for their uniforms. Tawny brown and mocha versus cranberry and puce. I would think they’d have trouble recruiting anyone if they had to wear those combinations of colors.
Take your pick of a Vineyard themed movie.
This was an actual drink on the Vineyard. It was grape flavored water and it was delicious. I wonder whatever happened to it… I wonder why I didn’t keep a bottle of it, or the label at least. Here’s to the memory of Vine… sigh.
The holidays are over and the doldrums of January arrive. With that arrival sometimes comes odd and wacky ways to entertain oneself.
This is Mousey. Up until a month or so ago he was solely one of Chappy’s toys. Somehow though he ventured out of the toy basket and Deb and I have found him in some interesting spots.
For example, on my treadmill and at her spinning wheel. As you can see Mousey had a bit of a dilemma… couldn’t reach the start button for the treadmill and couldn’t reach the treadle on the spinning wheel. Got to give him credit for trying though.
The other morning though Mousey found something he can do… look where I found him when I walked into the kitchen.
Mousey likes to cook…who knew… he’s been as quiet as well, a mouse, about this new hobby of his. Let’s take a look at Mousey in action.
This could be a problem.. you know how mice are about cheese?
Apparently he likes mozzarella more than ricotta cheese.
The finished product… looks delish.
Mousey and Chappy share some cheese and then relax after a busy morning in the kitchen.
This is one mouse I don’t mind having in the house.
There are lots of inspirational posts in blogger-land this month so I’ve been inspired to do one too.
These are good words to start 2011 with. Enjoy the journey -take each day as it comes and try to enjoy at least one little thing each day. Face problems and situations by taking one step at a time. Breathe -take a deep breath before you act, gives your head and heart a chance to get in sync with each other. Faith -have faith in yourself and in the world, know that a higher power is there to guide us if we have faith in it, and in ourselves. Imagine - let your mind wander, let your inner child back out, imagine yourself doing what makes your heart sing and what makes you content.
Right now I’m imagining myself on the Vineyard… breathing in the clean, crisp air… I have faith I’ll be there again enjoying the journey and adventures that wait for me.
This picture was taken a few years ago of one of my favorite stores… Sanctuary on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs.
